The school year is off to a great start.  Our first progress reports should have made their way home by now and students have either gone home pleased with their average or have decided to work harder in order to bring their grades up.

In ninth grade, we have just finished reviewing the basics of fiction.  We will spend this next week reviewing literary devices and will be moving on to a unit on NonFiction next.

In eleventh grade we are either currently reading or finishing The Great Gatsby.  We should have this wrapped up for both regular and honors classes by October 5th.  We will then begin Our Town  complete with a walking field trip to downtown Hanceville.

In all of my classes, we are finishing up the Your Own Story unit in which students are writing down their own stories -- past, present, and future.  The final draft of this story will be due on October 4th.  An excerpt (creatively done) will also be due on this day.  No printing will be necessary as we will submit all of this online and in cla

School started yesterday, and we had a wonderful start thanks to our new principal, Mr. Jimmy Collins.  The day went as smoothly as we could hope and most everything we aimed to accomplish took place.
Our counselor, Mrs. Koch, is a little overwhelmed with so many new student enrollments and schedule changes, but she is an all-star for being so graceful in her duties this week!
Our classes have been informative and busy.  I have spent a good bit of time trying to remember names, and I think I am pretty close to knowing all of my students by heart. Yay!

Tomorrow, we will visit the computer lab where my students will take their first tour of this website right here!

Welcome to the website guys!

I am very excited about the upcoming school year.  While my room is still a wreck, I have been working hard on my website and some handouts and lesson plans for the first week of classes.  I will attend Cullman County's New Teacher Academy next week and then I get to spend a week with my fellow teachers doing whatever it is we'll be doing.

So many new things are happening!  I just can't wait!
